I’ve been making boiled eggs in the Instant Pot for years using the “2-minute and done” method. Recently, I noticed that my eggs have a dark ring around the yolks, so I’ve been experimenting.
I found this Instant Pot method through trial and error, and it changed everything. This method creates perfectly cooked eggs with shells that practically slide off and, most importantly, no dark ring!
I love this method because there’s no need for an ice bath. Just remove the eggs from the Instant Pot after 10 minutes of natural release. The eggs practically peel themselves!

💡Ingredient and Recipe Tips
🥚 Eggs: This recipe was tested on large eggs. If you have extra large or jumbo eggs, you might need to test it out with one egg first.
🐓 Freshness: Use eggs that are at least a week old for easier peeling. Fresh eggs from the farmer’s market can be harder to peel, though I think my way still works better than the stovetop method.
⭕️ Sealing Ring: If you’re having trouble with the eggs not cooking through, add another minute to the cooking time. If you continue to have trouble, try replacing the sealing ring.
💧 Water: Use 1 cup of water in your Instant Pot. This creates the perfect amount of steam without the eggs sitting in water.
⏰ Timing: The timing is the same regardless of how many eggs you’re cooking. 1 egg or 24 eggs have the same cook time.
🌡️ Temperature: You don’t need to bring the eggs to room temperature first. You can use cold eggs straight from the fridge.
❓ FAQS
I have tried this method with up to two dozen eggs, and it works great.
